RIM dan Isu Pemberhentian Produksi BlackBerry PlayBook

Isu tidak benar bahwa Research In Motion (RIM) menghentikan produksi BlackBerry PlayBook dan mengakhiri bisnis perangkat tabletnya itu dengan lantang langsung dibantah oleh juru bicara RIM. Isu terkait penghentian itu berdasarkan analisa bahwa PlayBook bisa dibilang gagal menembus papan atas pasar tablet yang kini masih didominasi Appel dengan produk iPad. Persaingan makin ketat saat Amazon meluncurkan Kindle Fire dengan harga jauh lebih terjangkau. Perlu dicatat bahwa RIM hanya berhasil mengapalkan 500 ribu Playbook selama kuartal pertama sejak tablet itu pertama kali diluncurkan. Sementara itu, tidak kurang dari 200 ribu unit tambahan pada kuartal pertama juga dilakukan untuk memenuhi ketersediaan PlayBook di pasar tablet.
